Zoom on omega-3 and omega-6: omega-3 and omega-6 are classified as “essential” fatty acids because they cannot be produced by the human body; it is thus necessary to get them through food or supplements. Omega-6 acids, represented by linoleic acids are components of ceramides. They participate in restoring lipids found in the epiderm and are responsible for the fluidity of their cell membranes. Linoleic acid limits water loss while offering softening and nourishing qualities. The omega-3 (alpha-linoleic acid) helps the skin retain its elasticity and moreover is implicated in the anti-inflammatory process: it attenuates redness and calms irritations.

Other active components:

  • Phospholipids: similar to the ones that form the cellular membranes, they have emollient, softening and protective properties.
  • Phytosterols (beta-sitosterol, campesterol, stigmasterol): improve microcirculation, protect from water loss, slow down the cutaneous aging process, appease inflammations and protect from UV rays.
  • Vitamin E (tocopherols and tocotrienols): natural antioxidants that improve the stability of the oil. Tocotrienol also called “super vitamin E” is more potent than tocopherol. They both play an important antioxidant role by protecting the skin from free radicals thus preventing early aging.
  • Carotenoids such as beta-carotene (pro-vitamin A): give the skin that healthy look, they are antioxidants, anti-aging and photoprotectors.
